YEP March 2012

Standby day2 @ MBS. Too bored.
Decided to get back to blogging.
Okay that's not the point.
Yep march 2012!
I had sooooo much fun.

I remember, my first YEP was 2years ago.
And there, the 4 of us went back, as we promised.
The village that we went this time is WENQUAN village,
and yes there are basically hot springs in the village.

The job we had been asked to complete was to
BUILD A WALL,
around this thousand year old tree.

The weather in Xiamen wasn't that great for work,
as it was basically raining and foggy for the first few days.
So we didn't start working on building the wall
until Friday of the first week we were there.

Meh. The living condition weren't that great.
We had almost 10 people sleeping together in the room.
But that wasn't a big problem for me.
The biggest problem is getting used to
using the toilet and having a shower.
The weather is crazy for the first week,
It was freaking cold but there's basically no water heater
in our dorms and we had to either bath in the hot spings
or walk to the teacher's dorm for a hot shower.
First week passed slowly and painfully for me.
I wasn't getting used to the environment.
The weather was bad,
we wasn't able to start on work,
everyone of us had to do teaching,
the kids in my class are...
Blah.

Basically I just felt that this trip would be wasted,
if we were to just spend each day like that.

Had a super nice weekend at AN XI.
Stayed in a super nice hotel.
Proper bath, proper toilet, proper bed.
(Y)

Second week started with work.
Work as in manual hard work.
We weren't working as effectively as
the workers over there because our skill
and speed just couldn't match up with them.
They weren't impressed with our work the first day
and they actually insisted that we shouldn't
"hinder" with their work by the end of the day.
The next morning, we insisted
and started with work again.
This time, HOWEVER,when handling the huge stones for the wall,
they were actually quite impressed
by our strength.

As for lessons with the primary 6 class,
Me, together with jeremy and yong wei
had quite a hard time teaching them English songs.
"THE MORE WE GET TOGETHER, TOGETHER, TOGETHER..."

But I actually had quite alot of fun listening
to the kids sing out of tune.
I'd always think it's kinda cute when
someone sings out of tune.
Seriously, that's a superb talent.
And that always brings me so much joy.
:D

All the work and teaching in ended on wed.
And on Thurs, there was this...
mini concert?

Oh, for this trip.

I was actually made to sing in front of my class
for so many freaking times.
All thanks to yong wei and jeremy chin.
Making promises
to the kids just so they could
learn their songs properly.

Anyways, I do miss the kids.
Seriously.

And not forgetting one of the best decision we made:
going back to ZAOKENG,
the village we stayed in on our previous trip.

Many things has changed.
The cow that is right outside the house is sold.
The "school" isnt a school anymore.
All the children are no where to be seen.
Kinda sad to see the school
without any children and with all the classrooms
in a mess.

BUT we found NIU NAI!
Our favourite dog during our previous trip!
It's like the only thing that has changed.
Except that it has grown much older,
with whiskers? on his face.

okay i must say i find this photo super hilarious. (Y)
WELL, overall
I must say this trip isn't considered a wasted trip.
Time was well spent with the following musketeers:
HUISHAN
ISAAC ONG
JEREMY CHIN
JIAMIN
ROWENA
SHUYUN
YONGWEI
WILL NEVER FORGET YOU GUYS
<3
